Abstract

In the information age, film and television entertainment has become a globalized, networked, and popular cultural consumption behavior. Film and television works with subtitles can maintain the "original flavor" and allow viewers to obtain the most information in the shortest period of time. In the context of globalization, modern translation technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, providing solid technical support for the improvement of translation efficiency and quality. This thesis uses the "FAR model" constructed by the Swedish scholar Jan Pederson to assess the quality of machine-translated subtitles. Besides, this thesis compares machine-translated subtitles and human-translated subtitles, and explores the most appropriate method to meet the needs of subtitle translation and improve the quality of subtitle translation. After detailed research, it is concluded that the realization of the human-machine interactive subtitling, i.e., the combination of machine translation and human proofreading can not only ensure the quality of subtitles, but also increase the efficiency of subtitle translation. This mode is an effective way to accelerate the development of film and television industry and promote the international exchange of culture.
